Valentine's Day Kid Party

Together with her son, the ultimate do-it all mommy and dear friend of mine, Ashley, hosted a "We Love You" Valentine party this weekend.  This play date was quite a lavish affair, and she went above and beyond the pink, red, and heart decorations.  The kids went crazy over the craft table to make Valentine cards (well, maybe the mommies enjoyed the arts and crafts more), while the parents indulged on the delicious home-made cake pops, cupcakes, and mimosas. As party favors, kids were gifted with personalized mail boxes for their greetings to each other. Being a guest to any of Ashley's affairs is always a delight and there is so much great DIY inspiration at her parties.

Satin and Lace and Tulle, Oh My!

My little cousin is set to be married this November in San Francisco, as detailed in her blog here. I had the honor of taking her wedding dress shopping this weekend, and as luck would have it, the very first dress she tried on, was "the one".   However, as a first time bride, she needed to validate these feelings by continuing her search for the perfect dress.  We tried on a wide range of dresses from lace to satin, to mermaid and foo-foo silhouettes. But after several hours and designers later, nothing came close to her heart than that very first dress as she stated and I quote,"I have never loved anything as much as Chris, until now..."

Disclaimer: none of the pictures below detail her dress.

It's Friday

A lifetime ago, Saturdays were committed to nursing a hangover from Friday night drinks then going to the gym to work off that late night Jack-in-the-Box. Nowadays, life on the weekend is always full of outside ventures such as the park and the zoo.  On special occasions, we'll hit the beach.  My, how life has changed, but is so much more fulfilling.

Have a beautiful weekend.

The Monumental Views of the 101

The traffic to and from work this week has been utterly horrible, more so than the typical hour commute.  The week was kicked off with rain - which we all know that Los Angeles drivers freak out in the rain and ride the breaks from point A to point B.  Today, the weather changed and climates jumped up to the 80's, and still, Los Angeles drivers freaked out because the sun was in their eyes - use those visors and just drive people!!

In the midst of my 5mph commute, I stopped to take shots of infamous landmarks of LA. I personally take advantage of the beauties of this city. Millions of people travel from all over the world to see these sights, yet I see them on a daily basis.  Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday!

Not So Mellow Yellow

Neon colors have made an impact in the most recent fashion trends as I previously mentioned here.  I've succumbed, and bought a pair of bright yellow colored denim from Jcrew.  Surprisingly, never buying a pair of Jcrew denim, the "Toothpick" jean has an amazing fit, and the inseam was just right for my short petite legs.

Pumped Up Kicks

I have been in search of the newest comfy and cool weekend footwear.  I have grown tired of my Tom's, chucked all the Chuck Taylors,  and shun at the sight of Skecher's shape-ups.  I have been strongly debating on buying a pair of high tops, but feel they may look inappropriate on my short and petite frame.  If only I had the height and the monetary means, I'd buy the Isabel Marant Bekket high tops as seen on Miranda Kerr below.  In the meantime, what other footwear options are there?

Real Housewives

In honor of a girlfriend's 3rd decade of life, we celebrated over drinks at the swanky Villa Blanca.  The amount of wine, food and laughter was immeasurable. And the time spent with my girlfriends was the outlet I needed to release tension and stress building up from the week prior.  Indulging in some self care makes me a better mother.  It gives me time to recharge and rebalance, and as a result, I'm more attentive and engaged when most needed - with my family.

Coincidentally, we were here on the eve of the the RHBH season finale. Unfortunately, no Lisa Vanderpump was in sight, but we did spot her husband Ken, manning the restaurant in her absence.

End to a Busy Week, Start of a Busy Weekend

Image via fashiongonerogue

Oh weekend, you couldn't have come soon enough! I am glad that this long and hard week has come to an end. But now lies ahead of me a very busy weekend full of catching up with friends, starting new ventures,  celebrating two birthdays and of course spending time with the men in my life.
Have a great weekend!

the uppers & downers of parenting (or, coffee & wine)

I came across this blog posted on the Huffington Post and was dying of laughter because it pretty much sums up to a T my current situation - surviving life with 2 kids.  Amber Dusick is blog author of "Parenting.  Illustrated with Crappy Pictures" and shares her story as a parent in a sarcastic yet crude manner.  Her topics are so relatable and she says what you daresay out loud. I love it and kind of obsessed!

This post here talks about using coffee and wine as coping mechanisms through out the day:

"I am a drug addict. I use uppers and downers. But only to make me a better parent...
Kids wake-up with energy. Kids wake-up with loudness.
Kids wake-up too fucking early...
Go away. I need coffee..."
Before Coffee

After Coffee
"I don't need it. But they need me to have it...
...So that is my little helper pick-me-upper in the morning.
And then there is the evening.
Sometimes, after an especially rough day, I'm stressed out at night..."

Before Wine
"...Go to bed. I can't handle one more minute of this parenting thing.
I have to do this again tomorrow! How can I handle another day like this one? Nobody is listening to me!
But then my husband hands me a glass of wine..."
After Wine

"Again, I don't need it. But they need me to have it.
So that is my occasional little calm-me-downer in the evening.
Coffee & wine. My unsung parenting tools."

DIY - Cake Balls

Don't judge.  My attempt to make cake balls can be viewed as a FAIL.  I've heard that they are really hard to make, and I can vouch for truth behind this.  The recipe can be found here and the biggest challenge I experienced was getting the right proportion of frosting to cake crumble.  It turned out to be very gooey and mushy, thus making it hard to roll in the chocolate covering.  My balls were imperfect and inedible (insert "that's what she said joke" here).  Although this recipe received high ratings and reviews, I don't know if I'll attempt these again.  Even the hubs didn't have any comments to make when he taste tested and typically I get some sort of charitable feedback.

Half Year Birthday

I am in disbelief that six months has come upon us. My little baby is growing exponentially fast and this half-year milestone is bittersweet.  We survived the period of frequent fussiness and every 3-hour nightly feedings, but seeing Tyler sprout from newborn to baby makes me sad.  I try to embrace every moment while he is little, because before I know it, he'll be a mobile toddler.  To cherish these moments, I use these number stickers from Picky Sticky to track Tyler's growth.

They are adorable milestone stickers with fun, bright designs to record monthly birthdays (from birth to 12 months). Just stick to a solid onesie or tee and snap away with the camera.  Having the number on the picture is an easy way to identify age when looking back at old photos.  For instance, Dylan's milestone pictures (as seen here and here) may be inaccurately identified later on...wish I knew about these before! This also serves as a nice baby shower gift along with sizable onesies for each age.

Happy Half Year Birthday Baby Boy!!  xx Mommy

I was blinded by the amount of neon colors illuminating the windows while shopping in NYC.  Florescent yellow, pink and orange were carried in all ranges of stores from the trendy Bergdorf Goodman to mass retailer J Crew.  I know I am sadly getting older when I start to see previous trends recycled.  Neon is very reminiscent of the '90's, but love the modern twist that the following looks represent.
