Snap Reel: Outfits of the Week

This week felt liked it dragged...and dragged, and dragged and dragged. And the feeling seemed pretty mutual across other walks of life.  Perhaps its because the 4th of July holiday is nearing.  Which is unfortunate this year because it's in the middle of the week. Maybe the warm summer weather is making people antsy to play outside.  Or the deep discount sales that are occurring at the malls are creating anxiety for the women that are itching to indulge on a great deal.  (I was floored to find these ah-mazing booties from the Tory Burch pre-fall collection for 20% off!).

Luckily, this weekend I have no major obligations.  And once I decide to peel myself off the couch, I will be basking in the warm weather and may take the risk to hit up a few stores and fend off the bargain hunters.  Hope you too have a beautiful weekend.

*A special shout out to Nicole F. and Trisha T. for allowing me to feature their adorbs looks

A Good Reminder

A nice reminder to keep the motivation going this week.

Thursday Obsession - Neon Jewelry

Summer is my favorite season of the year, and I am green with envy for those that get to take advantage of the break.   Since I am neither a student or a teacher, I can only pretend like I am on summer break wearing seasonal staples such as easy tees, cutoff shorts, and fun bedazzles.  I am currently obsessing over these neon jewels... an eye popping piece to emphasize a summer tan.

A Case of Second Child Neglect

The moment Big D was born into this world, we fell into the realm of high strung parenting.
We were rigid and a stickler of all the rules.  Nap times and feedings were scheduled by the minute, bedtime routines were regimented, and anti-bacterial was applied every five seconds before laying a finger on him.

Life with baby number two, all of the rules have fallen to the wayside.  Sleep training methods are too labor intensive. The '5 second rule' is not applicable, and any pacifiers that fall to the ground are just given a blow and popped back into the mouth.  Now adding to the pile of neglect, Lil Tyty's 1st birthday is just weeks away and I have yet to plan a single party detail.  The poor second doesn't mean they are loved any less. But it's a tough case of juggling a pre-schooler and a toddler; it reshuffles all priorities!

Penchant for Pretty: Bar Carts

Photos via 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

It's only Tuesday, yet I already have cocktails on the mind.  I've been bookmarking these lovely bar carts as some home decor inspiration.  Now, having glass and bottles in arms reach may be unrealistic with two energetic kids running around, but I am willing to improvise.  More to come on project home decor!

25 Things You Didn't Know About Me

In the last couple of months, there's been a movement in the blogsphere where bloggers are doing their own spin off of Us Weekly's "25 Things You Didn't Know About Me".  In an effort to join the latest trend, here's my take on some things you may or may not know about me.

1.     My birth name is Gemma Flor.  Gemma after my great grandmother, Flor after my grandfather.  I was surprised to hear that Wendy was my back up name.
2.     I’m first generation Filipino and am probably the most Americanized Filipino you’ll ever meet.  Eating lumpia and pancit is the extent of my heritage.
3.     When it comes to overall communication, I’m more comfortable writing than speaking
4.     I have a ‘black thumb’ and kill all plants and flowers with it.
5.     I’m a nerd.  I clocked in lots of study hours in college, and as a result, I graduated college with honors with a degree in accounting.
6.     Yes, I admit that Keeping up with the Kardashians, and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills + New York are guilty pleasures.
7.     As a kid, I had an imaginary friend named Rose.
8.     I am a chronic worrier and often have a ‘half glass empty’ perspective.  I always prepare myself for the worst possible situation.
9.     Someday soon I want to be a stay at home mom.  However, I fear of failing at being a STAM.
10. Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All” is my go-to karaoke song.   My tone- deaf ears lead me to believe I can crush it.
11. I love watching football, but I will not allow my boys to play it.
12. I was a spelling bee champ in the fourth and sixth grade.
13. I once told Nick Lachey “My thoughts are with you” shortly after Jessica Simpson divorced him.   Not my proudest moment.
14. I prefer dessert over main course.
15. I regret not traveling to Europe with the Hubs before starting a family.
16. I sleep with my makeup on.
17. I was, and still am, obsessed with the original Beverly Hills, 90210. And no, I did not name my first born after Dylan McKay.
18. My perfect night includes family, laughter, pizza and wine.
19. Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” is my all time favorite song. Long before it was used in The Sopranos and Glee.
20. I find joy in paper, stationery and office supplies.
21. Before kids, I was never late.  Now that I am a mom, I am at least 10-15 minutes late; I hate it.
22. I find therapy in making lists.
23. My fifth toe is unusually shorter than the rest of my toes.
24. I don’t know how to relax.
25. I lent a pencil to this guy I met in Art History class freshman year of college.  I married that guy 10 years later.

Happy Weekend!

The week was full of good distractions...but deterred me from starting several projects that have been sitting on the back burner. Of what little time was spared for blogging, it gave me a much needed creative break.  My brain has been feeling like mush and as a result, I have been feeling dissatisfied with mediocre content. This weekend I'm looking to re-charge and re-fuel.

Hope you have a beautiful weekend!

Life Lessons for Boys

It sounds so cliche, but it literally feels like Big D was just born. And now, this week we start the process of transitioning him into preschool which is such a bittersweet feeling.  Teaching my kid to be independent is a pivotal milestone. Yet, his independence marks the point where he leaves babyhood behind and officially becomes a big boy.  It's incredible to see this fast transition, and I can only hope as a mother, that he grows to be the gentleman I aspire him to be.
That he...
  • will always be mindful and leave the toilet seat down
  • says no to drugs
  • understands nice guys don't necessarily finish last
  • is aware that even drinking one beer is still one too many to drive
  • gets girls hate the 3 day call back rule
  • remembers friends will come and go but his family will always be there for him

{DIY} Monogrammed Stationery

A fine wine and metallic ink pad...a great duo for a make it yourself project.  I got a little heavy handed with some polka dots after I discovered an alternative use for a wine cork -- a stamp.  Waiting for the ink to dry takes some time, but overall, the project itself is simple and easy for quick last minute stationery.  Didn't these come out adorable?

Investive in Vests

ONE  Isabel Marant / TWO Karl  / THREE Zadig & Voltaire  **found at Style Bop but sold out /  FOUR Topshop   /  FIVE H&M /   SIX  Scotch and Soda

Last year's sweater cardigan has been replaced with this summer's vest.  Street style inspiration can be seen herehere and here.  This transitional piece can be styled over dresses, tees and denim for a complete layered look .  I'm a huge admirer of this trend since wearing sleeves can be such a fussy commitment in this warm So-Cal weather.

Snaps of the Week

Military touches with a cargo vest

Champagne for a celebratory evening

Twin stripes

Sandbox gang

How was everybody's weekend? Ours was a weekend full of family time and new addictions. The Hubs and I launched the binge of a new TV series Game of Thrones.  Between committing time to the HBO series and 50 Shades, I have had spared little time for sleep and writing!

Happy Father's Day

A Happy Father's day to my dad.

To the man who...
-has little to say with a lot of opinion
-doesn't believe in a diet and lives off of fast food
-chooses brand name over generic
-is very passionate about his golf
-cleans for a living, yet has the messiest van
-has lost 80% of the hair as seen in the above picture :-)
-rarely says 'I love you' but I know he does

Love you dad!

Happy Friday!

I am soooo happy it's the end of the week!  Between the Hubs away on business, babies (+nanny) sick with the flu, and random things I have been busily working on off the clock - it's been a tiresome one.  I look forward to being with the fam and celebrating all the fathers this weekend.

I will also commit to fully immersing myself in two new blogs I've encountered this week and am feeling so inspired by.  One by the fabulous Joy Deangdeelert Cho who writes Oh Joy!  and another by Erin author of House of Earnest.  I feel the itch to get crafty.

Have a beautiful weekend.

Plush Show LA

I was fortunate to score some tickets to the Plush Show LA courtesy of Jill Simonian from The Fab Mom.  Held at the beautiful Vibiana in downtown LA, it was a stylish affair for families and kids to check out the latest trendsetting items and the most sought after baby gear.  One of the main sponsors and spokesperson for the event was Jessica Alba, featuring her launch of eco friendly products The Honest Co.  Which offers a line of natural baby products ranging from diapers to wipes to household cleaning products, and one of the main things that Jessica identifies as their competitive edge is value and affordability.  Their price points are competitive with what you would get at Target.  Now, for me, I am pretty loyal to the Babyganics line.  But once I receive my free trial of Honest, I'll let you know my reviews.

Boys with Swagger

Photo inspiration / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

Boys. When I dreamt about my future, husband and family, I never would have imagined I'd be surrounded by all boys.  Part of me always envisioned having a little girl that I could dress up in foo-foo dresses, barrettes and bows.  But I have accepted the sole reign of the woman in this household. That, or I'll be the next Victoria Beckham who will acquire a soccer team before I get a Harper.  However, I don't think my mate will agree with that plan.

Father's Day Gift Guide

I have no problem shopping for the women and kids in my life. However, when it comes to finding the right gift for the men I am surrounded by, I find it a bit more challenging.  To me, shirts, ties and cuff links are often expected.  Which is why when the Hubs strictly asked for clothes for Christmas, I created this.   So I collaborated with the Hubs for this post and came up with a list of the 'coolest' and 'trendiest' gifts for this upcoming Father's Day.  These are items that have caught his eye and wants, but would never buy for himself.   This brainstorm also helped me with ideas for his own special day.

The Golfer
1.  Golf Buddy World Platinum GPS helps improve a golfer's game by measuring the distance of each shot to the pin through out the course.  It comes preloaded with 40,000 world wide golf courses.
2.  Mongrammed Golf Club Covers  adds a little personalization and style on the greens.  You can pick and choose embroidery color, leatherette color and icon.

The Product Junkie
3.  Jack Black skincare kit complete with eye balm, moisturizer, lip balm, beard lube, face wash.
4.  Burberry Sport for Men perfume is gentle and calm with the dynamic scent of citrus and wood.

The Techie
5.  Nike Fuel Band OK..I have learned that this is the guy equivalent of a woman's Clarisonic Mia.  It's trendy, everyone has it, and it provides self improvement.  This fuel band tracks daily activity through a sport tested accelerometer and translates every move into Nike fuel.  So whether you are running, dancing or sedentary, it is a motivational tool to keep you moving.

6.  Rokbed Iphone case is designed and engineered to be the toughest case in the market.  Made of polycarbonate, it is reinforced at critical points and has a non slip grip shielding all the falls that may occur when your kid is playing iPhone games.

The Spirits Aficionado
7.  Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey is a liquor that personally piqued my interest as a gift for the Hubs.  It is a bridge for those who don't typically drink whiskey, but want to get started. It's known to alleviate the burn of whisky with a sweet and spicy taste of honey and cinnamon.

8.  Whiskey Set is a sophisticated accessory to be included with point #7.

The Reader
9.  Kindle Fire is a colored and faster version of the best selling Kindle tablet.  Watch movies, play games and read your favorite books and magazines.

Snaps of the Week

This week was not an easy one to transition from 'go with the flow' vacation mode to the daily hustle and bustle of reality.   This past weekend itself was busier than normal and I feel like I have been running at warp speed with out a moments rest.  In between the chaos, I have managed to get distracted by The Fifty Shades of Grey series.  I am wowed.

Here are the highlights (and lowlights) that made my week.

Unpacked and suffered (still am) from a vacation hangover.

Someone's bad lunch on the left, another's sad lunch on the right

Last minute business cards for a last minute event

The Hubs and I dressing in the same color family

Scored free tickets to a posh event (more to come later this week)

He may not say it yet, but he shows it

Playground Fave: Gap Tri Blend Tank

With the temps on the rise, the outfit choices have been skewed towards shorter hemlines and barer sleeves...especially in our whereabouts of LA, where temperatures hit close to 90's in the midst of summer.   I have been searching for the quintessential summer tank top (a look that is vibing ala American Apparel) for the boys and fortunately found what little stock was left of Baby Gap's Tri Blend Tank.  I got ahead of myself and bought every color for each little man in their respective size.
