Happy Weekend

I have been so distracted by marathons of Revenge this week it's left me with little to no time of doing things that need to be taken care of.  Luckily, I only have two episodes left of season one and then I can move on with my life.  This weekend will be full of kids' birthday parties, movie date night with the Hubs (and will finally see what all of this buzz is about)...and if we are really motivated in this rainy weather, I hope to get our Christmas tree.  Do you get giddy like I do with the scent of fresh pine needles?

Pretty Little Wrappers

I've been really into washi tape, glitter and bakers twine to dress up notably cheap paper bags as wrapping paper.  And I especially love adding a touch of personality and pizazz to gifts over printed wrapping paper.  Now that I have the holidays looming coming it's time to get crafty with some wreaths, pom poms and sequins.  How great are these ideas?

GIFTS FOR THE CO-WORKERS

Thanksgiving is now behind us and it seems that everyone and their mother is fully immersed with gift guides and wish lists for the season. I must be comatosed from all the food I consumed this weekend because I am lazily behind in my wannabe Martha Stewart game...no lists have been jotted, crafts have been sidelined, and the Christmas decor is still boxed up in the garage.  Nonetheless, I have started the initial brainstorm for gift ideas for the friends and family.  Considering I spend nearly 75% of my time at work, I thought it'd be easy to start a gift guide for co-workers.  These gifts all encompass details that I am very fond of: cute, colorful, and pretty.  Also something a bit more chic beyond that bottle of wine or fruity candle.

Holiday in Snapshots

Aaaaaah I wish I could say that these last four days off have been restful. Since Thanksgiving morning  until today, it has been a go-go-go type of a weekend. But there are no complaints here.  I am proud to say that I successfully cooked my very first Thanksgiving dinner, with a few minor hiccups here and there...and a 98% cooked turkey (lesson learned for next time). I braved the Black Friday crowds and indulged in some Christmas AND self shopping.  With the grandparents around, the Hubs and I got to escape for some 1:1 time watching this and socializing at this.  Lastly, we finished off the weekend posing for some family photos which I can't wait to share with you soon.

Happy Thanksgiving

I am 99% prepped for my inaugural Thanksgiving dinner.  Of course there are some last minute groceries that I need to grab, but I am fully versed with recipes and ready to go.  For those who know me, you'd understand that this is a huge milestone as I am quite the novice in the kitchen. Stay posted with a live feed of photos on my instagram. And hey, at least I have a back up Honeybaked ham  waiting in the wings if I fail with the turkey.  Aside from cooking, I look forward to an intimate holiday with family and paying thanks for everything I have been truly blessed with this year.  Hope you all enjoy this time with friends and family. xx

My Lovely Lady Bump

Hi there.  Quick intro: I’m pumped to be a guest blogger for PiC to talk about all things mom-to-be.  Pregnant or not, I hope you Pretty readers enjoy my ramblings as I go on this magic preggo ride. I’m a first timer and almost in my third tri, and I’m honored to be collabing with my lovely friend…(who I swear has a doppelganger running around carrying half her load because of everything she’s able to manage).

Anyway, back to me.

Given our assumed collective obsession with fashion, I’d like to kick this series off talking about maternity wear.  All together now:  UGH.  Maternity clothes are so awful on two fronts:  ugly and/ or expensive.  Oh wait, let us not forget the third nasty: a mere 3-6 month shelf life in your closet.  UGHHH.  For these reasons, I vowed early on that I wouldn’t buy maternity clothes until it was absolutely necessary.  Luckily, when I did begin to show, I was able to make do with my existing wardrobe mix of tops, leggings, and maxis.  I guess I should thank the prolonged summer we had in LA, as well as my incessant love of all things oversized and flowy.

Tip time.  When you start getting the baby pooch… you can actually pull out some of the stuff from the back of your closet that you were planning to wear after you lost those last 5 pounds.  Sounds counterintuitive but it isn’t really. Take the floral dress in the pic below for example.  It’s not a maternity dress and no way would I have been confident enough to pull off something bodycon like that in pre-pooch times.  But with the pooch, I’m like, "oh heyyy, I’m wearing this, and what, I’m not fat, I’m pregnant".

You’re welcome.

It was all good and dandy pulling things from my own closet for some time but unfortunately, things lately are starting to kind of feel really tight.  With three months to go and no telling how much bigger I’m going to get, I finally buckled down and combed through what was available out there to come up with a plan.  Because if you’re forced to buy maternity clothes, you really should have a plan.  And so far, this is what has worked for me.

For Tops and Dresses.
Asos - my go-to destination since  the style/ price combo can’t be beat.  Some of my favorite pieces are:

For oversized knits and sweaters:  JCrew.  Especially Men’s and especially sweaters.  These are items I will add to my ‘normal’ clothes pile, post baby.  Winning.

For leggings: Old Navy.  Swearsies.  They are so comfy and so cheap, it’s, like, a sin.  Like shopping at Old Navy in the first place.  Yes, I went there.

So.  In summary?

First, don’t get caught up in the hype of stocking up on maternity clothes.  Check your own closet first.

Second, don’t be afraid to get sexy.  It’ll be the one time in your life your muffin top doesn’t really exist.

Third, A Pea in a Pod is not the only option you have for maternity clothes.  That’s what I thought when I wasn’t pregnant.  But I was wrong.  I’ve done some digging for you (well, for me, but you get to share the benefit of my research) and there’s a whole lot more out there if you’re so inclined to look.  Have fun.

And if you’re not pregnant …I guess, thanks for reading.  Next topic: Shopping for the baby.

Toodles.

Handmade Advent Calendars

With Thanksgiving just days away, I am thinking ahead and planning out some handmade crafts for the Holiday season.  I think I have found my next project.  How adorable and unique are these advent calendars?  All are cheekier versions of the cardboard punch windows and chocolates.

Snapshots: Brunch at Tavern

The past weekend had it's fair share of ups and a few downs.  First, the rainy weather forced us to keep inside and we got to indulge in some lying around and watching TV -- a very rare occasion since I hardly allow myself more than 3 consecutive hours of accomplishing NOTHING! I binged on the first season of Revenge, and am now addicted. I ventured back to my old 'hood in Brentwood to meet up with my girlfriends for brunch at Tavern (all detailed below).  The Hubs and I got to escape for some one on one time to the House of Blues where we got to see the Spazmatics perform.  The downs we faced?  A sad upset with USC's lost to UCLA and now have to kiss our bowl dreams goodbye.

I can't believe this week is Thanksgiving and look forward to a shorter work week! Happy Monday.

Happy Weekend

The schizophrenic weather in LA has finally leveled off and it's 60° and raining. I'm going to take full advantage and bust out the Hunter Boots and trench coat.  Hope you have a great weekend!

What I'm....

It's been a long week and I very much look forward to a weekend of hanging out with my favorite people this weekend...The Hubs, my girlfriends, and of course my little boys.  What's looming over me is the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday, and prepping for my first attempt to make the dinner.  It's stressing me out! So in the midst of scouring through Pinterest for some basic "cooking for dummy" recipes, I was distracted by the following...

Little Prepster

How adorable is this little prepster tear? I am dying over the accessories and now I'm on a mission to get some of this swag for my kids.  However, there is a high chance that they'd stand all but five minutes wearing either the aviator sunglasses or scarves.

Lately, I have been feeling the chaotic effects of having small boys.  The house seems to always be cluttered with toy cars, trains and balls and we call it a good day when the Hubs avoids stepping/tripping on any of them.  Second of all, there is no such thing as walking.  Running is the average pace to get from room to room, and on many occasions, one of them becomes each other's roadkill.   Lastly, there's always a lot of rough and very little gentle.  Ok, I am over exaggerating, but it does seem like there are far more bumps than kisses.  Whether it comes to banging toys on the floor, wrestling, or taking down mom (obviously, no complaints on showing mom some love), but as they grow taller and bigger, they don't seem to realize the aftermath of their uncanny strength.

All of these quirks come along with the boy territory, and frankly, I wouldn't change my family dynamic for the world.  But I tend to wonder what it would be like if the house were full of girls. Would it be any different? Would the house be any tidier or quieter?  Would chasing and rough housing even occur? Or perhaps this isn't even a question of a boy vs. girl thing...it could simply be the fact that kids will be kids.

Closet Clean Out

I have been on a major fall cleaning kick lately and took upon the mother lode of all house cleaning tasks - organizing my closet.  Step one was the daunting task of purging all of the clothes that have been collecting dust and stashed away deep in my drawers.  Maternity wear from pregnancy number one, old items dated as far back as college, pre-pregnancy jeans that no longer fit the same, and finally - tossing out the last of the Juicy Couture matching velour sweat outfits **gasp! The culmination resulted to nearly 8 trash bags full of clothes.  Once I got more breathing room, I organized by color and folded everything neatly in hopes that I can cut time to create outfits in the morning.  Especially now that I have untangled and hung all my statement jewels (see below).

If you are wondering what the destiny is for those 8 trash bags...I am still undecided.  Some will be donated, many will be divided by the friends and family who have requested them, and few will be sold  online.  I am not fully launching the shop as of yet, but to get a sneak peak of what I have in store, see here.  I am waiting to shoot the apparel next week... so more to come on that.

Happy Birthday Mom

The end of the year is nearing, and we have officially hit birthday season...and we have got the kids' birthday parties lined up through out the end of the year.  However, there is one particular birthday that is extra important today, and it belongs to my mom.  Happy Birthday to my loving mother! To the woman who makes everyone the priority before herself, and especially when it comes to her family.  Love you mom, make this one a great one. xx

Happy Weekend

There's finally a chill in the air and it's time to get cozy inside with sweaters and blankets - my ideal type of weekend.  Is it premature to launch the holiday movie marathons too?  I am always giddy with excitement as mid November rolls around and the holiday tunes start playing and the decorations begin to post up everywhere.  Even the sight of this has me rolling with joy.

The holidays are incomplete if they don't include watching:

  • The Holiday with Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz ...at least 10 times with a bowl of fettuccine
  • Love Actually with Colin Firth and Liam Neeson
  • Serendipity with Kate Beckinsdale and John Cusack
  • Home Alone (all of them) with Macaulay Culkin
  • Elf with Will Ferrell
  • Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer in claymation

What holiday movies get you in the mood?

Mom and Mini on the Streets of SF

Shortly after we started dating, the Hubs and I would frequent 'the City' (aka San Francisco) to visit our college friends that migrated north after graduating from Santa Clara University.  And now, nearly 10 years later, we got to reminisce and wonder what our lives would be like had we followed the college crowd and moved to San Francisco.  I would have either pursued my career in accounting or be working at the corporate offices at the Gap. Matt, on the other hand, would be financially certified with his Series 7 and CFA.  I'd more than likely be decked out in Patagonia and North Face gear with a trimmer and fitter body from all the walking everywhere.  I can go on and on, but isn't it always fun to play this game of "What if  _____"?

Anyway, in the midst of reminiscing and imagination, we got to take a couple of street shots on Fillmore street and Fisherman's wharf, some of our favorite and old stomping grounds.
