I relish in these signs of fall. Chilly weather and a dark cloudy morning called for an impromptu photo shoot before preschool drop off. And of course for Los Angeles, our barometer of cold begins at 60 and below, so I layered Big D in his beanies, puffer vest and skinny jeans.

This weekend was full of fun and love as we celebrated Big D's 4th birthday party. And what a fun theme we 'built' for the Lego party theme. Bright colors, delicious food, and boisterous 4 year olds resulted to yet another successful birthday party.

One day turned into two, two became three, and so on and so forth. And before I knew it, I took an entire week away from the blogosphere. And boy did it feel good! This time away from the computer was very necessary as I have begun to feel tired and listless with blog content. Even within my own personal life, I took a break from my every day reality and escaped to Mexico for a girls' trip with no connection to work or my computer (more pics and stories to come later). So after a brief hiatus, I am feeling more rejuvenated than ever. I am ready to get back in the swing of cyber-life.

With a life of small kids, you become well-versed with local parks, kids' theme destinations and kid-friendly restaurants. And over the last 4 years, I have become quite knowledgeable of pumpkin patches. Here in LA, it is hard to find pumpkin patches that aren't over-crowded or highly expensive. My notable favorites are Tapia Brothers and Underwood Family Farms. And if I am itching for celebrity sightings Mr. Bones. However, the sad reality of LA pumpkin patches is that you end up paying hundreds of dollars in entrance, parking, and ride fees, let alone the high price points for less than perfect pumpkins that later rot a few weeks laters. So I was happily surprised when I headed back home to the San Luis Obispo county and took the boys to the Avila Barn pumpkin patch. Everything but the pumpkin was free. We got lost into hay mazes, had a
failed photo shoot, rode tractors and roamed around the big farm with horses and barn animals. My jaded LA lifestyle was shocked to find that all this came with no cost.

With a pang in my heart and proud tear in my eye, I wish my fast growing baby the sweetest birthday. I.CANT.BELIEVE.HE'S 4! (PS. I am fully aware of this redundant disbelief for every birthday). It is with tradition that we take Big D to the pumpkin patch every birthday. And like every other visit, we play in the hay, feed the animals, and get our photos with the pumpkins.
Happy Birthday Big D - and thank you for giving me the happiest, most rewarding 4 years of my life. I look forward to many, many more adventures with you and I pray that as you grow older, that you continue to share your sweet and gentle kindness in this world. xx

BRRRR, it is officially cold in Los Angeles and it's time to bust out the sweaters and coats. Ok, a little too extreme with coats, but maybe leather jackets. Hey, I am from LA and like the many other fashionably inspired women of Southern California, we are posers to winter fashion. We prefer the fashion over the function - and take any excuse of 65 degree weather to wear the UGG boots, scarves, Hunter rain boots and beanies. So here is a classic example of California winter fashion sweaters with leg revealing skirts.
