Menswear Spring Style

I recently collaborated with men’s fashion brand, Paul Fredrick, to choose my favorite picks from their Spring 2014 line.  And as a personal shopper and stylist to the Hubs, I selected items that are his current go-to’s in his closet:  colored bottoms, plaid shirt, and a cardigan.

Happy Weekend

The week ended on a high note!  My previous post featuring Dylan’s class auction project was featured on Popsugar moms this week.  It was such a nice surprise and honor since I am an avid follower of all the Sugar networks.  Looks like 2014 is taking a turn towards the positive.

Referee / Mom

A few sweet and gentle candid photos of mommies and their babes.  I try and embrace these type of special moments with my boys.  However, more often than not, I find myself scolding rather than cherishing them.  I feel like a referee and not a mom.  Barking for a “time-out”,  pointing “you’re being a bad boy”, or throwing two arms in the air “stop being mean”!  Tearing limbs off of each other! I often feel defeated and I can never reign in my terrible two year old. So I just give in to that cookie.  Skip brushing those teeth. Leave the toys on the floor.  Because at the end of the day, I have to come to grips that I am not a referee. I am a mom and I have to learn to let the crazy go and foster these moments.

Worst Year Ever

Maybe it’s a little too premature to state the above, but I am having one of those days where I want to be a bit melodramatic. It’s been a rough couple of weeks.  My dog passed away.  My best friend is about to move out of state.  Another girlfriend lost a job she loved.  I just paid a hefty fine for texting while driving.  The list goes on, but you get the picture. And now all of this is making me feel hopeless and can't seem to catch a break.  And I am afraid that it’s not going to get any better this year.  Why? Because I am a woman of superstition.  I feel my luck is a game of numbers and weirdly believe that odd years are ones of better luck for me.  I was born in an odd year, as well as both my kids and husband.  I graduated high school and college in odd years.  Last year, 2013, was an awesome year full of travel.  So now, with a big sigh, I have 350 more days to break this streak OR be extra cautious and careful of those black cats.

Black and White

We’re 13 days into 2014, and I can proudly say that I have accomplished one of my resolutions for the New Year:  to not eat meat for 10 straight days.  And I did it!!  I have to say, it was a lot easier than I expected - choosing fish over meat and substituting more greens over chicken.  And it helped to have the Hubs' support along this short journey.   Even after the fact, I am still hesitant to go back on my diet as a carnivore.  This diet has made me have more energy - probably less processing of foods - and a flatter stomach (bonus points!).  So I may push myself beyond my goals and see if I can go longer than anticipated.  

In case you are wondering what my black and white inspiration has to do with my diet - nothing! The two are completely irrelevant!!   

Snaps: Star Gazing

I share with you some moments of star gazing over the weekend (forgive the poor quality of photos from my phone).  But after a night of indulgences at Scarpetta with my dearest friends, and running into Diane Kruger and Kyra Sedgwick in the bathroom (!), we crashed our way into Sean Penn's Haiti Benefit and caught a glimpse of some top A-listed celebrities.

Happy Weekend - Golden Globe Favorites

It is the eve of my favorite award show, the Golden Globes!  A night full of glitz, glam, and celebrities from both film and TV. I admit, I am more entertained by the red-carpet shows than the actual ceremony. Personally commentating on the beautiful couture gowns, the hideous ones and gawking at the dapper suits.  I’ve picked out some of my favorite gowns from years passed and seem to be drawn to those that are pink in color, white and embellished.  

On a side note, I will be heading to Beverly Hills tonight for dinner.  It’s kind of become a thing of mine to crash Golden Globe parties and try to seek out celebrities.  I have done it for the past years ever since this night.  Wish me luck!

Mixing it Up

I find that the key to maintaing a healthy lifestyle full of exercise is to constantly mix things up.  I break fitness monotony through rotating many activities such as running, hiking, pilates and tennis.  It also helps to have a buddy system for moral support and a kick ass music playlist to get you moving.  I like running to Pandora’s ‘Power Hip Hop Work Out Mix’ to keep up the motivation.  Here are other work outs I like to rotate while hitting the gym and I have seen fast results:

  • CARDIO WORKOUT: 1 minute at 5.0, 1 minute at 5.5, 1 minute at 6.0, 1 minute at 6.5, 1 minute at 7, 1 minute at 7.5, 1 minute at 8.0, 2 minutes at 4.5.  Repeat 5 times.
  • ARM WORKOUT: 10 pushups, 20 dips, 30 bicep curls, 40 second plank, 50 second knee tucks, 40 second plank, 30 bicep curls, 20 dips, 10 push ups
  • CORE WORK OUT: 1 min right side plank, 1 min left side plank, 1 minute bridge plank, 30 right oblique crunch, 30 left oblique crunch, 20 scissors each leg, 20 mountain climbers, 10 regular sit-ups, 10 vertical leg crunch, 10 russian twists, 15 mountain climbers, 10 scissors each side, 60 side to side foot touch.

Saddened with Loss

Many may or may not know this, but Big D isn’t our oldest son in the family.  Before kids, Parker, was our furriest and oldest kin within the Cox family.  However, it is with heavy heart that I share the loss of our dear dog, who recently passed away just a few days ago.   He lived a life full of immense love,  and we find this tough time very bittersweet.  Over the last few years our pup was diagnosed with diabetes, and within the last year became blinded with glaucoma.  So while we are saddened with grief with his absence from this world, we are happy that he is freed from all of his pain and suffering.  May he rest in peace now.

Happy Weekend + Links to Love

Happy New Year weekend.  I am currently strategizing on how I can accomplish my resolutions for 2014.  First on my agenda, playing tennis with the Hubs.  We are so lucky that we can be outside in the middle of Winter.  Whereas the North East is being pounded by a snow storm right now. My friends and family who live out there, stay warm and safe!

2014: Have More Fun and Less Fear

I am a woman fond of lists and had to publicly share my long list of goals and aspirations for this 2014.  
My big resolution for 2014, that I vow to achieve, is launching my own company. My own site, where I can be my own boss.  Call my own hours, and all the shots - with out fear or regret.  I know I proclaimed this for the last couple years, but this year is going to be my year.  I feel it.   What are your top resolutions for this New Year?
